Gas, Ceramic or Induction?

How do I choose which is right for me?

Families have come to demand faster, hotter and cleaner forms of cooking, allowing them to create new and wonderful recipes that would have not been possible on the older style rings.

GAS:

Stir frying and Wok cooking has seen the popularity of gas cooking increase dramatically over the last 5 years. Nearly every brand offers at least 1 model of gas top, while some brand, like Smeg, offer up to 17 models of gas cook tops!

Gas cooking is fast and precise, able to reach very high temperature but also maintain these high temperatures. This heat output is ideal for wok cooking as the heat can easily travel up the sides of the wok, or spread throughout the base of a large pan.

INDUCTION:

Induction cooking is the best of the Ceramic and the Gas cooking styles all in one.

The induction cook top works by using a powerful magnet to encourage the pan or pot to become hot. The induction cook top actually generates no heat, but the energy provided causes the pot or pan to heat extremely fast. Induction cooking is now considered to be the fastest and most controllable form of cooking available on the domestic market.

Induction cooking is also very safe – while the pot or pan will heat very quickly, only a small portion of the heat will transfer back to the glass top greatly reducing the chance of burns or accidents. This also makes Induction exceptionally easy to keep clean, as it’s almost impossible to burn food onto the glass surface.

Induction now comes in a variety of sizes including 60cm, 70cm and 90cm. Smeg currently offers the largest selection of induction cooking, with selected brands starting from only $1899.
